    • “The Harford policy also routes all questions from the news media through the council’s new spokeswoman, Sherrie Johnson. She alerted the press to the policy in an email Monday.

“After the council meetings, reporters should not approach council members directly,” she wrote. “They should speak to me about questions for council members.”

        • I shouldn’t feel this enraged, considering I’m so far away. On principle, though, I have to agree. I hope, on my death bed, I can look back in a flash and say I tried. I’m not sure any of these careerist piranhas will even attempt it.

  • So this somewhat relates to something I’m dealing with. You’ve helped me on here about another journalistic question before. I’ve been investigating a very controversial government agency and I’ve requested an interview, however they’ve told me that they want a list of questions to be approved by them prior to the interview. I’m happy to present them with general topics which is more than I do for anyone else I’m interviewing in the story, but I don’t want to provide them with questions.

My inclination is to tell them either you can agree to the interview or decline, but I’m not going to accept you setting forth terms and conditions for the interview. The only real interview is an open interview.

What are your thoughts on this? Let’s just say this is a bunch you know well.

  • “Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter”

It’s just a matter of time before you and The Frederick News-Post get a letter from Clarence Carter’s lawyers.

Do not poke a stick at Back Door Santa.

Not only is he still around, it’s possible he’s still touring.

  • Kevin Stevens, did you mean Kirby Delauter? Because there’s no way Kirby Delauter would take that lying down. Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter.

  • The best response so far is that Frederick News-Post not only used his name dozens of times in the op-ed, they started each paragraph with a letter of his name! Sorry guys, but the Frederick News-Post has won this trolling contest.

  • Kirby Delauter is making my Wednesday fun. I live elsewhere, but work in Frederick, so I’m a somewhat interested observer of Kirby Delauter’s shenanigans. Kirby Delauter is completely hilarious, yet sad and pathetic in a way only Kirby Delauter could be. I’m really only making this comment to add yet more Kirby Delauter to the intertoobz. Because reasons, Kirby Delauter.

  • I saw something about this (Kirby Delauter) in Facebook last night and spent fifteen minutes (Kirby Delauter) researching and scratching my head (Kirby Delauter). I honest to God (not Kirby Delauter)thought it was something from the Onion (Kirby Delauter) or another satirical web site.

    • Every journalist or ex-journalist should use this guy’s name in print or broadcast this week. On principle.

      • While we’re at it I think the same should be done for the Charlie Hebdo cartoons as well. Kind of makes our issues with Kirby Delauter look a little silly now.

          • Too bad so many have already backed out, citing the cartoons as “too provocative” to publish. The rallies across France are quite inspiring though!

            • I suppose a variety of forms of what purports to be ‘political correctness’ will always be with us.

But, you’re right, more powerful is the real response by the citizens of France.

The so-called terrorists in this case are nothing more than deranged idiots and, far from demeaning the Prophet, peace be upon his name, the Charlie Hebdo cartoons serve to highlight the deranged ideology of those who would kill in His name.

              • The principles of democracy and liberty are in direct conflict with those of this so called prophet. The great Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi( a Muhammad truly worthy of praise) said of Islam “If the people of this religion are asked about the proof for the soundness of their religion, they flare up, get angry and spill the blood of whoever confronts them with this question. They forbid rational speculation, and strive to kill their adversaries. This is why truth became thoroughly silenced and concealed” That very wise Persian’s words are just as true today as they were hundreds of years ago. Peace be upon all humans and let us debate the rationality and morality of all so called prophets without violence.

(Blogger’s note: Seamus, I’ve reluctantly edited your first few sentences simply as a matter of intellectual decorum. If you’d like to repost those points — legitimate criticisms of fundamentalist Islam as they are — without a direct attribution to the Muhammad, then fine. But what bothers me is making this blog a repositiory for purposeful and overweaning affront rather than a purposed criticism of religious or theologic principles or traditions. To be clear, if someone wants to critique fundamentalist Christian or Jewish theology by attacking, say, the intolerance of homosexuality or the approved stoning of adulterers, great. But to phrase that by first declaring that Jesus Christ should go screw himself or that the rabbis ought to shove a Torah someplace dark is just needless effrontery, and cruel to those who find solace in belief and feel reverence for that which they believe to be divine or divinely inspired. These murderous, myopic cretins in Paris have stained Islam by their actions — including that greater portion of the Muslim world, from the Caliphate to the Enlightenment to our own time who practice a mature and reasoned moral philosophy. That very real damage that they have done leaves even less call for the rest of us to tar the entire faith or its prime source on the basis of those unsupportable artifacts of Islam’s original Fourth Century narrative. Comparable moral anachronisms are present in all three of the Judeo-Christian faith, and yes, it’s one thing the attack the excesses and affronts of fundamentalism. It’s a good thing, in fact. There are plenty of ways to do it without a preface that spits on someone else’s prophet just for the provocation of it. That’s not likely to produce a coherent exchange of ideas with anyone seeking a rational discussion about something like this. DS.)

          • As the former editor of four different small newspapers/magazines, I really wish I was in charge of one right now so I could run a special issue that had a satirical picture of Muhammad on every single fucking page.
